Carrie Newcomer

Carrie Newcomer joins us for a Song of the Soul drawn from her latest album, A Great Wild Mercy, including some songs co-written with John McCutcheon and with Siri Undlin/Humbird.

Humbird is a musical experience with Siri Undlin at its center. Her music has been described with terms like contemplative folk musings and resigned tenacity, but I would simply call it heart and soul stirring combined with instrumental genius. Siri lives in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, while the rotating band membership of Humbird reaches further afield.

Two great guests: the amazing thinker & author, Parker Palmer, is joined by the wonderful singer, songwriter, & world healer, Carrie Newcomer. They share their various collaborations, the first being a word, song & connecting experience called Healing the Heart of Democracy, then there was What We Need Is Here, and their newest collaboration is called The Growing Edge.

J. Brent Bill is the author of Life Lessons From a Bad Quaker: A Humble Stumble Toward Simplicity and Grace, reviewed in Friends Journal to much acclaim. He's also been an avid consumer and creator of music, and joins us this week to discuss one section in particular of his book, the Humble Stumble Hymnbook.

Micah Sommersmith follows his nose into great music, letting the lyrics lead him into deep meaning. Although accordion is his weapon of choice, he also plays/has played piano, trumpet, euphonium, guitar, and the organ (required for his job as music director for a Methodist church). He joins us before a live audience to share music today, nearing the birth of his first child.
